E-ISSN: 1542-4308
Print ISSN: 0883-5365
In the spirit of democratic exchange, the Center for Studies in Oral Tradition now offers an online, searchable bibliography that contains every book, article, film, or other item ever referenced in the journal Oral Tradition from its founding in 1986 onward. Composed of more than 21,000 entries on more than 100 different areas, this Summative Bibliography reflects international research and scholarship on the world's oral traditions from ancient times to the present day. It is an open-access, free-of-charge facility that will be updated as future issues of Oral Tradition are published.
The following are some of the advanced search options available to you. They are meant to be similar to other common search engines' syntax so that it is as accessible as possible. For a more detailed synopsis, please reference our
search syntax.
-
Phrase Search("")
A phrase surrounded with double quotes ("") matches documents containing that exact phrase.
-
Field Searches
Prefixing a term with author: area: or year: will allow you to search only for items matching that criteria. For multiword terms use parethesis (ex. author:(de Boor and Mohr)) or quotes (ex. author:"de Boor and Mohr")
-
Wildcards (*)
The search supports using a trailing '*' wildcard, which matches any number of trailing characters, so wildc* would match wildcard, wildcarded, wildcards, wildcat, wildcats, etc.
-
Term Exclusion (-)
Attaching a minus sign immediately before a word indicates that you do not want pages that contain this word to appear in your results. The minus sign should appear immediately before the word and should be preceded with a space.
-
Boolean Operators
The words AND, OR, XOR and NOT will function as boolean operators in your query. By default, the query terms are considered to be joined with AND so it is usually not necessary to use. You may also use parenthesis '()' to control precedence of your operators.
